Quantum Science and Technology

From the fundamental laws of physics to the complexities of biomolecular chemistry the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science is the multidisciplinary engine driving Florida’s quantum future.

The Charles E. Schmidt College of Science at Â鶹¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ is rapidly emerging as a multidisciplinary hub for quantum computing research, application development, and workforce preparation. Driven by a cross-departmental commitment spanning Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Geosciences, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, Psychology, and Urban and Regional Planning, the college is building a distinctive quantum portfolio centered on near-term quantum advantage.

A defining strategic asset is the college's active partnership with D-Wave Systems and the forthcoming on-campus installation of a D-Wave Advantage2 quantum computer — making Â鶹¾«Æ·ÊÓƵthe first university in Florida to publicly host a large-scale quantum computing system on site.

Beyond the Hardware: Why the Sciences Matter

Quantum technology is more than just a computer—it is a transformation of the natural and mathematical sciences. In the Schmidt College of Science, our scientists don’t just use quantum tools; they define the quantum topologies of biological networks, the chemistry of molecular folding, and the mathematical proofs of post-quantum security.
