Why do I need to complete the Fit First-Year online trainings?

If you are a new student at Âé¶¹¾«Æ·ÊÓÆµor returning after three semesters, you are required to complete the Fit-First Year for Student Success trainings. To get off to a positive start, we want you to be prepared for success at FAU. Areas that may present challenges revolve around alcohol, personnel health and safety, and finances.Ìý Additionally, early career preparation and planning is essential, and we provide trainings, resources and activities to enhance your career fitness.

As a part of our commitment to your success, we provide engaging educational trainings to help you with your transition to or your return to FAU.ÌýÌýWe areÌýpleased to introduce you Fit First Year for Student Success, our online educational program, to help you take a closer look at these issues in college.ÌýWe offer these trainings to comply with the FAU, State of Florida, and Federal requirements.

As a member of the Âé¶¹¾«Æ·ÊÓÆµcommunity, you are expected to complete the Âé¶¹¾«Æ·ÊÓÆµKick-off Your Future Career Readiness Module, Alcohol and Other Drugs, CannabisEdu, Sexual Assault Prevention, Hazing Prevention 101, Mental Well-Being for Students, and CashCourse online trainings.Ìý Failure to do so may result in the inability to register for classes next semester.

Completion of all modules will take approximately seven to eight hours; thus, we strongly encourage you to not delay in fulfilling this requirement.Ìý

What are the Fit First Year Modules for Student Success?

Kick-off Your FutureÌý is your introduction to the career planning process and it will help you build toward your career goals and future. During the 2021 legislative session, Florida House Bill 1261 was passed, requiring each State University in FL to adopt procedures to connect undergraduate students to their Career Centers for career education and planning. The goal is to help Âé¶¹¾«Æ·ÊÓÆµstudents make an informed decision about their intended major and best understand the career pathways and salary potentials. Kick-Off Your Future will connect Âé¶¹¾«Æ·ÊÓÆµstudents to the Career Center in a meaningful way and our goal is to connect Âé¶¹¾«Æ·ÊÓÆµstudents with high-quality career information to allow them to have success at Âé¶¹¾«Æ·ÊÓÆµand beyond. The training is associated with the Career Module (CM) Registration hold. Additional FAQs for this module (e.g., deadline for completion, technical assistance, etc.).Ìý

Mental Well-Being for StudentsÌýempowers students to navigate the stressors and emotional challenges associatedwith college life.Ìý The training cover the following aspect of mental health:

Well-Being - Short videos introduce an awareness of how college life can post unique challenges to well-being.

Self-Management - Teach students enhanced strategies for self-care and allow them to practice techniques for bolstering their mental health.

Recognizing Challenges - Instruct students how to identify when outside help may be needed when facing mental health challenges.

Seeking & Offering Help - Explore mental health stigmas and other barriers to seeking help.

Alcohol and Other Drugs is a reality-driven online course designed to educate students on the risks of the abuse of alcohol and other drugs, and to teach successful strategies for handling dangerous situations related to these substances.

Ìý

CannabisEdu is a brief online course that offers information to help students make informed decisions about cannabis use or non-use, including how to know when someone’s usage has become problematic.

Ìý

Sexual Assault Prevention is designed to educate your student on topics of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking awareness. The U.S. federal government mandates that all new students take this training to understand the State of Florida definitions of these crimes and learn bystander intervention and risk reduction techniques. Additional FAQs for this module. Completion of this module satisfies the requirements for the Campus SaVE Act (CS) registration hold.

Hazing Prevention 101â„¢ Course College Edition is an evidence-based online course developed with HazingPrevention.Org, reflecting best practices established by leading academics studying hazing. This one-hour awareness and prevention based course teaches college/university students how to recognize, prevent and report hazing. Pre and post surveys are an important part of the program and the data will be used to further efforts for prevention in the future.

CashCourse is a robust financial literacy/wellness online training offering comprehensive and self-paced modules to develop knowledge in budgeting, saving, investing and much more!

How long do the trainings take to complete?

Most of the trainings may be completed in 60 minutes. The Kick-Off Your Future training is estimated to take 60-90 minutes.Ìý Plan for spending six to eight hours to complete all of the required trainings.

What registration holds are connected to the Fit First-Year Series?

Once you are an enrolled student a Campus SaVE Act (CS) registration hold will placed on your account for Spring 2024 semester and will be resolved automatically an hour after you complete the Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates module. The registration hold will not impact your ability to drop, add, or withdraw from courses for the current semester, but it will impact your ability to register for the Spring 2024 semester. Ìý

A Career Services (CM) registration hold will be placed on your student account after the drop/add period of your first semester if the Kick-Off Your Future requirements have not been met. This hold will prevent you from registering for the next semester’s courses as well. Once all requirements have been met, the hold will be removed automatically.Ìý

Please ensure you complete these training modules by their respective due dates. We offer these trainings to comply with the FAU, State of Florida, and Federal requirements.Ìý

When are the trainings due?

Kick-off Your Future:

  • My first semester at Âé¶¹¾«Æ·ÊÓÆµis Summer.
    • For students who first enrolled and started taking classes in the Summer, you have until the 4 weeks after drop/add in the Fall semester. To ensure that you can register on time for the Spring semester, you will need to complete Kick Off Your Future prior to your registration time opening.
  • My first semester at Âé¶¹¾«Æ·ÊÓÆµis Fall.
    • For students who first enrolled and started taking classes in the Fall, you have until the 4 weeks after drop/add. To ensure that you can register on time for the spring semester, you will need to complete Kick Off Your Future prior to your registration time opening.
  • My first semester at Âé¶¹¾«Æ·ÊÓÆµis Spring.
    • For students who first enrolled and started taking classes in the Spring, you have until 4 weeks after drop/add before a hold is placed on your account. To ensure that you can register on time for your Summer/Fall semesters, you will need to complete Kick Off Your Future prior to your registration time opening.

Mental Well-Being for Students:Ìý 6 weeks after classes begin.

AlcoholEdu for College: 30 days after receiving the assignment invitation via your Âé¶¹¾«Æ·ÊÓÆµemail account.

CannabisEdu: 30 days after receiving the assignment invitation via your Âé¶¹¾«Æ·ÊÓÆµemail account.
