Honoring National Foster Care Month
Monday, May 10, 2021
Did you know that May is National Foster Care Month? Strengthening families and identifying life-long connections for children in the child welfare system is a major focus area for the Social Work profession. According to the National Association of Social Workers (), in just a decade, the foster care system has seen a 20% drop in the number of foster children partly because 鈥渕ore social workers and other social services professionals and child welfare systems are helping to preserve and strengthen families.鈥 Yet there is much more work to be done to improve the overall system and ensure that the nearly 25,000 youth who transition out of foster care annually without a permanent family have the necessary skills and supports to move forward.
Join us in honoring National Foster Care Month by raising awareness and bolstering change.
