麻豆精品视频鈥檚 Ali A. Danesh, Ph.D., has been named a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), one of the highest professional honors in the field of audiology. The national recognition honors academy members who have made exemplary contributions to the profession and demonstrated a sustained commitment to advancing audiology.

Danesh is a professor of communication sciences and disorders in FAU鈥檚 College of Education and holds a secondary appointment as a professor of biomedical science at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. He is board certified by the American Board of Audiology and has been a faculty member at 麻豆精品视频for more than 28 years. His selection as a Distinguished Fellow recognizes a career marked by research, education, mentorship, clinical expertise and leadership in audiology and related fields.

Danesh鈥檚 distinction comes through the academy鈥檚 James F. Jerger Program of Distinction, a prestigious initiative named in honor of James F. Jerger, Ph.D., the academy鈥檚 founding father. The program recognizes audiologists whose extraordinary work has advanced the profession in meaningful and lasting ways. Those selected as Distinguished Fellows are recognized not only for career excellence, but also for a lifelong commitment to advancing audiology through leadership, scholarship, mentorship, research, education and other areas of professional service.

Danesh鈥檚 selection as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology is an extraordinary accomplishment that reflects the depth and impact of his work as a scholar, educator and mentor,鈥 said Charles Dukes, Ed.D., dean of FAU鈥檚 College of Education. 鈥淭his national honor is a tremendous source of pride for our college and for Florida Atlantic. Dr. Danesh has built an impressive record of research and collaboration while preparing the next generation of professionals to address complex challenges involving hearing, balance and neurological health. His recognition by the world鈥檚 largest professional organization of audiologists is a powerful testament to his leadership and to the caliber of scholarship taking place at FAU.鈥

Danesh earned his Ph.D. in audiology, with an emphasis in auditory electrophysiology, from the School of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology at The University of Memphis in 1998. His research and scholarly expertise encompass audiology, auditory electrophysiology and auditory evoked potentials, auditory and vestibular neuroscience, tinnitus, sound sensitivity disorders including hyperacusis and misophonia, vestibular assessment and rehabilitation, topographic brain mapping, auditory profiles in autism spectrum disorders, genetics of hearing impairments and cochlear hair cell regeneration.

His research focuses broadly on the auditory and vestibular systems and the pathological conditions that can affect them, including tinnitus, sound sensitivity disorders and vertigo. He has investigated auditory pathologies across diverse populations. His work increasingly examines the connections between hearing, balance, cognition and neurological health.

Danesh鈥檚 current research includes the use of telehealth and a nystagmus analyzer algorithm; the relationship between vestibular disorders and cognitive function; the effects of diabetes on memory and hearing; balance and memory characteristics in individuals with Parkinson鈥檚 disease (PD); and the connections between motor and non-motor symptoms in PD.

Over the past five years, Danesh has published more than 25 peer-reviewed research and review articles and proceedings and has delivered more than 30 research, poster and lecture presentations at state, national and international meetings. His research has involved collaborations with researchers from multiple disciplines and universities, reflecting the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of his work at the intersection of audiology, neuroscience, medicine and other fields.

At FAU, Danesh also directs the Tinnitus and Balance Research Laboratory, which provides an interdisciplinary training environment for undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and medical students. Students from communication sciences and disorders, medicine, neuroscience and engineering work in the laboratory, gaining research experience while contributing to investigations of hearing, balance and related neurological conditions.

His contributions to research and education have earned numerous honors throughout his career, including 麻豆精品视频College of Education Researcher of the Year awards in 2021 and 2018 and Scholar of the Year awards in 2016 and 2011. He also has received recognition for teaching excellence, including a Teaching Incentive Program Award and Professor of the Year honors from FAU鈥檚 Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Danesh鈥檚 latest honor adds a significant national distinction to a career spanning nearly three decades at 麻豆精品视频and underscores the university鈥檚 growing strength in interdisciplinary research addressing hearing, balance, cognition and neurological health.
