UNIVERSITY GALLERIES AT 麻豆精品视频PRESENTS 鈥楢IDS MEMORIAL QUILT鈥
The University Galleries at 麻豆精品视频鈥檚 Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, in partnership with Compass Community Center, presents a new installation of panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Now entering its third year, this collaboration brings one of the most significant community artworks in modern American history to South Florida, offering visitors a powerful space for reflection, learning and collective remembrance.
The public is invited to experience the five Quilt panels through听 Sunday, Dec. 14, 听in FAU鈥檚 Schmidt Center Gallery Public Space, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
First created in 1985, the AIDS Memorial Quilt has grown into the world鈥檚 largest community-assembled work of art. Each hand-crafted panel is an act of care, created by individuals wishing to honor a life touched by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Together, the panels form a moving visual archive that preserves personal histories while illuminating a pivotal chapter in the nation鈥檚 public health story.
鈥淭his presentation allows our visitors to encounter a work of profound cultural significance,鈥 said Veronique Cote, director of the University Galleries. 鈥淭he artistry, scale and human dedication behind each panel speak to the enduring power of creativity and community memory.鈥
The exhibition invites audiences to slow down, observe the tactile language of fabric and stitching, and consider how communities come together in times of crisis and change. The installation transforms the gallery鈥檚 public space into a site of quiet engagement and thoughtful connection.
